Clerk: Yes, we do. The animal storybooks are on the middle shelf, between the fairy tale books and the comic books.  

Tom: Great. This one looks nice. Who is the author of this book?  

Clerk: The author is Emma Wilson. She writes a lot of stories for children.  

Tom: How much is it?  

Clerk: It’s eight dollars.  

Tom: I’ll take it, please.  

Clerk: Would you like a bag?  

Tom: No, thank you. I’ll put it in my backpack.

Text 3: “My First Big Book”


When I was ten years old, I read my first big book. It was a mystery story about a missing painting. I found the book on a small table in my grandmother’s living room, between a plant and a lamp. At first, I thought it was too difficult, but my grandmother sat beside me on the sofa and helped me with the new words.


Every afternoon, I sat in the armchair next to the window and read one or two chapters. Sometimes I put the book on the coffee table in front of the sofa and talked with my grandmother about the characters. When I finished the book, I felt very proud and happy. After that, I started to read more books every week.
