Read the text below and do the following exercises


Thinking about the Future


“I like thinking about the future,” said Anna. “I want to be a doctor. I enjoy helping people. Science is my favorite subject at school. I always study hard for my science tests. In the future, I want to work in a big hospital and help sick children.”


Ben smiled and said, “I don’t want to be a doctor. I want to be a chef. I love cooking. I watch many cooking videos online and try new recipes at home. My parents say my pasta is very good. My dream is to open my own restaurant one day. I want people to enjoy my food.”


“Your pasta is great,” laughed Carlos. “But I don’t like cooking. I want to be a musician. I play the guitar every day after school. Music makes me feel happy and free. I want to play in a band and go on tour in different countries. I also want to write my own songs.”


Anna looked at her friends and said, “Our dreams are very different, but that’s okay. If we work hard, maybe we can all reach our goals.”


“Yes,” Ben said. “You can help people, I can cook for them, and Carlos can play music for them.”


Carlos nodded. “We can all make people happy in our own way.”



Grammar Focus: Making Predictions with “will”


Use will + verb to talk about the future and make predictions.  

Example: Anna studies hard. She will be a good doctor.



Exercise 1 – Complete the sentences


Use will and the verb in brackets to make predictions about Anna, Ben, and Carlos.

Write sentences with will about the three friends.
