Part 1 – Reading Comprehension (Short Text)

Read the text and answer the questions.

Maria is a nurse in a small hospital. She is in her early thirties and quite tall. She has long, dark hair that she usually wears in a ponytail when she is at work. Her face is round and she has big brown eyes. Her patients say she has a warm smile and kind hands, because she is always very gentle when she touches their arms or checks their temperature.

Maria usually wears a simple white uniform at the hospital, but in her free time she likes colorful clothes. At the weekend, she often wears jeans, a bright T‑shirt, and comfortable trainers. In winter, she loves her thick green sweater and a long scarf. She doesn’t like expensive dresses or high heels because she prefers to feel relaxed.

Maria is friendly and patient. She listens carefully when people talk about their problems. However, she can be a bit shy when she meets new people, and sometimes she is too modest. Her friends say she is very reliable, because she always keeps her promises and arrives on time.

Anna and her friend Luke are shopping for clothes.

Luke: The color is great, but I’m not sure about the style. The sleeves are too tight, and the neck is very low.

Anna: You’re right. I don’t feel comfortable showing so much of my shoulders. Maybe I should try something with long sleeves.

Luke: How about that blue shirt and those black trousers over there? They look simple but elegant.

Anna: Good idea. I need something I can wear to the office and also to dinner with my parents.

Luke: What size do you usually wear?

Anna: Medium, but sometimes the waist is too small. My hips are a bit wide.

Luke: Then let’s ask the shop assistant for a larger size.

Anna: Excuse me, could I try this shirt and these trousers in a larger size?

Shop Assistant: Of course. Here you are. The fitting rooms are on your left.

Anna: Thanks! I hope they fit better than the dress.
